Song Material for Tina!!!

Song Material for Tina!!!

Postby skippy35 » Sun Mar 07, 2010 6:25 pm

Last week on GMTV that is Good Morning TV in the UK - Pop/Soul artist Beverly Knight revealed that she had been working on a song writing session for Tina. The outcome was the song 'Soul Survivor', however Knight felt the track was so good she has released it herself. This does raise alarm bells perhaps in its suggestion that artists are one again writing for TINA, does this mean a new album is on the way??? If so GREAT!! Check out this out at -

She says she wrote it with Guy Chambers so I'd say it's not "new." The two songs released on her last compilation were also co-written with Chambers (in that case, Pat Monaghan). So this was probably several years ago now. Chambers seemed to be coordinating and writing with different folks for what was supposed to be new material for Tina.

At this point, whenever Tina does decide to record anything new, I'd say she'll be working with different writers/producers/material. Which isn't to say that she might not possibly revive some of whatever came out of the Chamber's sessions (she's held material back before and released it later) but I wouldn't place money on it.

Amen Skippy!

It's a lovely song and I'm happy for the wonderful Beverley Knight, although I'm not disappointed that she didn't give this song to Tina. It seems very biographical about Tina and I feel like she's been there, done that, many times over. I want to hear more material from Tina with a new theme rather than singing about what was obviously written about Tina's earlier days. I know some on this forum don't like her cover of "Edith and the Kingpin", however I personally would love to hear more jazz/acid jazz-style music from Tina. I cannot listen to "Edith..." enough - she nailed it!

My comment had nothing to do with being negative.

I'm just stating an opinion based on previous info. Why would Tina release material from several years ago when at the time she was deliberately trying to get material that would get airplay? I think it's a good guess that the Chambers boat has sailed. I will say that I agree that this song not being given to Tina is no big loss. The whole Soul Survivor connotates I Might Have Been Queen and yes, "been there, done that" and that was a better song than this one. Although it fits into the whole pop with some r&b thrown in that seems to be Tina's (or Roger's) standard.

I also happened to like the Edith and The Kingpin project as well but agree that a fair amount of her fans (at least on these forums) doesn't seem to want her to go down that road. However, if you're being practical about it (and based on past interviews) Tina herself is at a point in her career where she probably wouldn't mind doing it or something similar to it but seems to know the fans are resistant to it. I think that's a little sad.

It'll be interesting to hear what she comes up with when she decides to go back into the studio. I'll be glad to hear anything new from her but like this past tour, I'll be disappointed if it turns out to be the tried and true and not something different.

I'm with you Milky. I'll take any new Tina material although, like you, I would also love to hear some fresh content from Tina. As her biggest fans, we all want more of the stuff that made us such fans, but I would agree that Tina may also enjoy something new.

Fingers crossed that we'll get something. Her music is like a drug - some is never enough...

Tina's already had a song called "Soul Survivor." And this song doesn't drift too far from Tina's. It's not a dynamic song at all in my opinion. Not to be disparaging of Ms. Knight but I think she dropped Tina's name for a bit of publicity to trickle over. I have longed for Tina to do something that is totally unexpected. Her rendition of "Edith and the Kingpin" gave me so much hope that she would pursue other endeavors. Herbie Hancock has sad that he wanted to do a whole album with her, so I wish she'd comply. Her vocal talents are spectacular and I wish she'd let a new generation see her range... I WANT A TINA JAZZ ALBUM.

I want new stuff of Tina!
I don't need a "jazz" album. I need my and our Tina!
After a new album of Tina with new material, yes i would may think it was a good project, like it was a Unplugged album or concert for MTV.
Tina steel have a lot of things and projects, that she ever hadn't donne before on her musical career.

Just one thing i think it's obvious: Time is running!

Love you Tina.

I agree on a Jazz-like album... just new material, not songs from the 80's... and don't sing about your past, been there done that!
